iDT Blockbuster Help

Module Description

iDT Blockbuster is an iDT sized version of the arcade classic (also known as Arkanoid) and Imagination Works remake called "Blockbuster Gold". iDT Blockbuster was also the first game ever designed to work within the Imagination Works Desktop environment, in fact, the game actually pre-dates iDT itself as it was part of the original stand-alone iDT package that in its original form, was nothing like the existing Imagination Works Desktop as it is now.

How to Use

Goal/Objective

iDT Blockbuster is essentially a paddle, ball and block game which is in many ways a single player deviation of the original arcade classic "Pong". The goal of the game is to eliminate all the blocks in a level, completing as many levels as possible and achieving a high score.

How to Play

To do this, the player controls a "paddle", which can only move left and right, as well as fire a "weapon" designed to influence the movement of the ball.

You can influence the direction the ball moves also by moving the paddle in the direction you want the ball to be influenced while the ball collides with the paddle, while it requires more coordination and skill, it is the easiest and most straight forward way to influence the ball's movement.

Basic Principles

  • Destroy all the blocks in the level
  • Influence the movement of the ball by moving the paddle in the direction you wish to influence the ball
  • The more blocks the ball takes out between paddle hits, the more bonus points are awarded
  • Hitting the ball with a weapon shot is a good way to keep the ball from touching the paddle, thus allowing the maximum number of bonus points to be awarded
  • You must "catch" the bonus once it is knocked out of it's block
  • The game speeds up with each level
  • Each level is randomly generated

The Different Blocks

Hitting different blocks yields different results, the following list sums up the effects of hitting the different blocks in the game.
  • Blue: Standard one-hit block
  • Orange: Requires two hits to destroy
  • Green: A chance for an extra-life
  • Purple: Like the blue block, but yields far more points
  • Grey: While destroyed with one hit, doesn't cause the ball to alter course or bounce
  • Dark Navy: A chance for weapons
    • Once you have gained this bonus, you can fire the weapon with the "shift" key, use it to re-direct the ball but watch out! Orange blocks deflect the shot back at you!
  • Yellow: A chance to slow the game down
    • With every new level, the ball speed is increased, this bonus slows it back down to make it easier.
