Module Description

iDT Update is a module designed specifically as the official online component of The Imagination Works Desktop. You can use iDT Update both to download new modules and update existing ones. Additionally, iDT Update can be used to repair existing modules where their related files may have been deleted or moved.

iDT Update is not just for Imagination Works products either, it's easy for anyone to incorporate their own catalogue within the framework of iDT Update, all you need is a web-host with FTP accessibility, and another iDT module called iDT Catalogue builder which will be released shortly!

How to Use

Using iDT Update is easy, but there are two things you will need to get started. The first is an internet connection, the second is a catalogue link to connect to. The Imagination Works catalogue file should be included with your download of iDT, and therefore you should already have one catalogue to connect to. These files (with the file extention *.fdat) instruct iDT Update on where the catalogue is located on the internet. They are also encrypted to ensure the catalogue's host that their FTP connection information is secure. As long as one of these files resides within your "/modules/iDT Update/" directory, you can use iDT Update.

Once iDT Update is loaded, you will see a listing of available catalogues, click on one of these catalogues to connect to it. At this point, once and if iDT Update connects succesfully, it will scan the catalogue for modules you do not currently have, or modules you do have that require updating.

Once the catalogue is scanned, you will see the following menu options.
  • New Modules
  • Module Updates
These menu options will also indicate how many of each item are currently available. Click on one to bring up your chosen list. If there are modules that fit the criteria for your chosen list, they will be listed, otherwise, you will be informed that there are no modules that fit the criteria you have chosen.

If you select a module from the "New Modules" list, you will then be presented with a short description of the new module as well as an option to download. Once you click on the "Download" link, the new module will automatically be downloaded and placed in the appropriate iDT modules directory.

If you select a module from the "Module Updates" list, the program will automatically begin to download available updates, once finished, the list will be refreshed.

Whenever a list is too long for iDT Update to display in full, use the left and right arrow keys to view the portion of the list you wish. There is also an "Exit" button for you to use to disconnect the existing catalogue and return to the catalogue selection menu, and the "^" button is displayed whenever to allow the user to return to the previous menu.

Once a download is completed, a message shown in iDT will indicate the program will require a restart in order to complete the installation process.

Problems?

  • iDT Update Requires an internet connection to work
  • There must be at least one valid catalogue file (*.fdat) in the "/modules/iDT Update/" directory to work
  • Connections are not guaranteed, especially when 3rd party catalogues are involved, The Imagination Works will make every effort to insure the Imagination Works catalogue remains active.
  • iDT Update uses the module files (*.idtmod) to evaluate the files required for a module to work, such as it is, Imagination Works modules have been extensively tested to insure they work correctly, however, The Imagination Works cannot be held responsible for any 3rd party products and their affects.
  • iDT must be restarted before you use the new or updated modules
  • Incorrectly built catalogue files will appear as garbled text in the catalogue selection and will not be available for use, this occurs when the incorrect key is used to encrypt the catalogue file
